Over the summer, Karen and Sidney had looked at every adoption agency in both US and Canada and narrowed it down to a few. Even with Sidney's status, they couldn't guarantee a faster process then all the normal families wanting kids. There were rules and Karen wanted to follow every one of them, not get a baby before everyone else due to who her husband was. All they could do was wait for that phone call.
A week later Karen had made an appointment to see her doctor for her regular check up. She needed to make sure everything was fine but also felt like she needed an impartial ear to listen to her about all this.
Meanwhile, Sidney found out him, a couple other players and coaches were going to be doing media coverage about the Winter Classic game. He had gone to Heinz Field, where they game would be, and sat in on the press conference. The players weren't going to be speaking, they were just there for attendance of the teams playing. After they got done, the Pens and Caps players decided to have fun and try to shoot some pucks threw the uprights in the end zone. Afterwards, Sidney and Mario made their way to the arena and christened the new ice and new arena.
Karen was at work while Sidney was doing his media duties. When she got home, Sidney wasn't back yet and
wondered how long the media thing would take. She got changed and sat down
getting on her laptop. She went to check her email first then to the Pens
website, She saw there was video up already from the press conference and
watched it. When it was over, Karen went back to the listing of videos and saw
a new one pop up. It had Sidney and Mario on the ice at Consol. She clicked it
to watch it and saw how fitting it was that they did that. Karen sat there and smiled at it and decided to have some fun

After an hour, Sidney pulled up to the

out for dinner, and then I take you to Consol and make good on our first skate

"I'll let you know after our
skate studly" she said kissing him again before going to change. Sidney
followed her and changed into a pair of jeans, getting out of his dress pants
to be more comfortable too. They headed out for an early dinner and then Sidney
drove them to the arena. He took her in the way he would go for practice and
games, and just watched her face light up at the new building. "Oh wow,
this is amazing."

Sidney took her down the hallway to
the locker room. He first showed her the lounge area and then the locker room
itself.
"Ok, now this is a locker

Karen turned around and faced him
"reasoning behind your stall being directly in the middle."

barely read my name even though I know where my stall is."
"Well, the old locker room you
were on the end and I see Mario's picture on the wall above, so I figured they

their skates on. Karen went and sat directly in his stall, smiling "you

Karen kissed him and finished getting her skates on. They walked out of the room
and down the hallway to the bench. Sidney put her in front of the door and held

Karen looked around at the vantage
point she had from the bench "this is incredible Sid. So much more open
then the Igloo. Games are going to be amazing in here."
Sidney had her take a step back and he
opened the door, letting her step out onto the ice first following behind her.

skated around together. Karen stopped at center ice and looked above at the
suites. Sidney skated up to her to get her attention.

"Wondering which suite I want for

"Well, we can go up and you can
see the advantage point from each one before you pick."

"Well Mario has the one in the
middle there. How about having the one beside
his?"
"I could and that way I could be
near Nat and the kids, Plus your parents and Taylor could go between both
suites. But then again, what happens if you get hurt and come sit in the suite
with me? We could kick everyone out and be alone but having Mario next door, we
couldn't have that 'sex during the game waiting to see if someone catches us'

"Would there be cameras in there?"
"I don't know about in them, but

After a while, they went back into the
locker room to take off their skates. Karen got hers off first and before she
put her shoes on, she waited until Sidney got his off and made a move to climb

As they left, Karen did stop at the
offices and told them which suite she wanted. They made note of it and told her
she would get a letter to verify in a couple of days. They left the building and

Before long training camp was getting underway and the new season was upon the city of Pittsburgh. During the summer, the Penguins organization came up for an Ice Crew to clean the ice during TV timeouts and other on/off ice duties. Karen was thankful that the Pens never had to go in that direction at Mellon when other teams had them. Hockey was not a sport that needed cheerleaders. She also wondered how distracting it would be for the players as the skimpy outfits would cause chaos and wandering eyes.
Opening night came and to say the girls were excited was an understatement. They were in their suite and loved the view...and the free food and drinks that came with it. "What will we need to do if we want others to join us for games?" Diane asked.
"They will need tickets to the game obviously but I can let them know that I'm upgrading them to sit with us. The front office said if I know in advance, they could make me tickets and pay for them to give out to friends that would be for the suite."
"I love having you for a friend Karen" Sheril said putting her arm around her neck.
"You've always lucked out when it came to Pens games haven't you?"
"That's because you love me" she said getting Karen to laugh.
"Some days it's debatable" she said. "I'm heading down to see Sidney since I didn't get home in time before he had to leave."
"Wish him luck from all of us" they yelled to her before she left the suite.
Karen had made her way down to the lower level of CONSOL
and to the locker room area. She walked around and heard his voice but stumbled
upon a sight not worth seeing. Karen saw Sidney with a girl probably about his
age, pretty with blonde hair. She ducked around the corner and just watched
them. She saw them laugh while they were talking, almost flirting with each
other. Karen stood there and realized she had seen enough when she saw the

hair back. She walked out and approached them.
"So this is why I couldn't find you" Karen
said startling the pair.
"Hey" he said kissing her cheek
"wondered if you'd come down before the game."
"Well it's not like I'm missed or anything"

"This is Dayna, she's one of the new members of
the Ice Crew."
"Not like we needed one" Karen said
disgustedly looking her up and down in the skimpy, tight outfit.
"It's nice to meet you" she said in a
sickly sweet tone.
"I'm sorry, Danya this is...." Sidney said
but stopped when he couldn't remember her name.
"Oh how interesting" she said looking at
him and crossing her arms over her chest "let me see if I can help. When I
left the house this morning I was your wife Karen, now I'm not so sure."
"It's nice to meet you Karen. Sidney and I were
just getting acquainted."
"I'm sure you were."
"I need to get going anyway. I'll see you again
soon Sidney" she said walking past them smiling and Karen knew exactly
what she was doing.
Karen looked at Sidney "maybe I should go
too" she said walking back to the elevators.
"Baby, wait" he said following her "it
wasn't what it looked like."
"I saw her flirting with you and you seemed to
liked it. You're saying it wasn't what I saw?" Sidney stood there silent
as the elevator dinged "hmm, silence is never a good thing" she said
as the doors opened.
"Hi Sidney."
"Hi Rose" he said smiling at the older
woman running the elevator.
"Are you heading back up to the suites
dear?"
Karen looked at Sidney who was looking at her with
pleading eyes "no, I guess I'll stay here for a little while longer."
"Is this your wife Sid?"
"Yes it is. Rose this is Karen, baby, this is
Rose Kramer. She worked over at the Igloo for 15 years."
"Well it's nice to meet you and so glad a lot of
the employees from Mellon got to come over here."
"You too dear. You know, Sidney hasn't shut up
about you for the last couple of years. Finally nice to put a face with the
name. Is he making you as happy as you are him?"
"Too much that it's sickening at times" she
said as they all laughed.
"Well enjoy it dear. I'll be back for you
later" she said before letting the door closed and leaving them standing
there alone.
"Hopefully that proves that my eyes and heart
belong to you."
"I don't doubt it Sid" she said turning to
face him "but you had to be blinded long enough to forget who I was."
"It wasn't like that baby, we were just
talking."
"And it scares me that you couldn't see what was
happening. More importantly, it scares me to wonder how far she'll take it
before every home game when I'm not around. Maybe not just her, there are
others aren't there?"
"You're just going to have to trust me."
"I do trust you, it's them I don't."
Sidney looked at the clock "I better go get
ready."
"Yeah, good luck tonight."
"Thanks" he said walking past her as Karen
pushed the button for the elevator. Sidney stopped and ran back to her, turning
her so he could wrap his arms around her and placed an incredible passionate

"Hey now you two, let the boy have some of that
energy for tonight" Rose said as the doors opened and they broke apart.
"Apparently I give him all the energy he needs,
so I've been told."
"We'll talk at home later" he said giving
her a quick kiss before leaving them. Karen smiled and stepped into the
elevator.
"And that's why he can't shut up about you"
Rose told her before the doors shut and they made their way to the suites
level. "There you go dear, enjoy the game and I'll see you after to take
you back down to him."
"Thanks Rose, I appreciate it."
"Anytime dear." Karen waved as she walked
off the elevator and over to her suite. She went in and got a few questioning
stares from her friends as she went to get something to eat and drink.
"Why does it seem something happened?"
"It's nothing, just an apparent
misunderstanding."
Diane and Sheril left the suite to go to the bathroom
leaving Karen and Natalie alone to talk. "What did Sid do?"
"It wasn't so much Sidney as it was one of the
newly crowned Ice Whores that I caught flirting with him."
"But he can't be totally off the hook in all
this?"
Karen sighed "he forgot my name when he
introduced us."
"Oh sweetie, I'm sorry."
"He doesn't think I trust him and I do..."
"You just can't trust her or the other Ice
Whores." Karen just looked at her "yeah, caught one of the giggly
blondes coming on to Max, Annie I think her name was."
"I knew it was going to be trouble when they had
the idea for one."
"But they're not allowed to fraternize with the
players. Maybe we could let someone know."
"They wouldn't be able to stop the flirting Nat,
it'll happen no matter what."

men alone? This isn't high school Nat and I'd rather wait to see if something

Meanwhile in the locker room...
"What's up Sid, you look perplexed about
something?"
"Max, Natalie needs to stop teaching you those

"Karen saw me with Dayna and she said what she
saw was some flirting between us."

looked at him "yeah, I had a feeling when they hired those girls it would
be trouble for the team."

either."
"Did you tell her that?"
"I tried but we'll talk after the game. Of

"As always" he said making them laugh and

couldn't do anything to curb her jealousy. In fact he was flattered she did get
jealous over it. But like he told Max, nothing would happen with any of the Ice
Crew girls.
After the game, Karen sent a message down to Sidney
and told him she would meet him at home. She didn't feel like waiting around
for him knowing if she ran into any of the Ice Whores it wouldn't be pleasant.
When Sidney got the message he knew it was for the best but still wanted her to
wait around for him. He loved it when he had her to walk out with after a game
but until this got resolved he would take waiting to see her at home. Sidney
got done with interviews and was already to head home when he literally ran

her hand off his arm and walking away.
"Damn, Karen was right" Sidney whispered to
himself. He closed his eyes and let out the breath he was holding before
heading out of the arena and to his car. Sidney pulled up to the house and got
out. As he walked up to the front door and opened it, he saw the flickering of
the fireplace coming from the living room. As he got closer, he saw Karen
curled up and just staring into the fire. Sidney took off his jacket and hung
it up before walking over to the couch. "Can I join you or is this a
private party?"
Karen moved to sit up and turned her head to wipe
away a few stray tears that fell. Sidney saw her and took a deep breath before
sitting beside her "I was right huh?"
"How did you..."
"I can tell by the look on your face when you
walked in."
"We ran into each other heading out and when she
touched my arm, I knew her intentions and finally saw it."
"I didn't say it to be right Sid I said it to
hopefully open your eyes for you to see it yourself."
"I saw it and believe me it hit me like a ton of
bricks. I'm sorry for the way I acted afterwards when you came down, but I have
to say, when you get jealous I get turned on big time."
"You're insane" she said smiling and wiping
away the last of her tears "I just knew what would happen when they
advertised about having one."
"I would love to see you out there."
"Not like I wouldn't have killed the skating
part."
Sidney smiled when he saw her smile "am I
forgiven?"
"Are you going to be prone to anymore flirting
on your end? I know they won't stop but I'm hoping it will from you."
"I can't help if people take my being nice and
sincere as flirting baby. After all, that is how I got you."
"I thought it was the way you make me scream out
for you in bed?"
"Well that too baby" he said leaning in for
a kiss and was happy when Karen met him half way to join their lips.
"Maybe we just make it known to them that if they flirt with me, they have
you to deal with."
"I'll just tie them to the goal post and shoot
pucks at them until they realize Sidney Crosby is off limits and all
mine."
"Mm, I like the fact of being someone's
property" he said smiling at her.
"Good" she said kissing him again "and
I forgive you." They continued kissing for a few minutes before Sidney got
up and put out the fire. He came back over to get Karen, taking her hand and
leading her upstairs.
After the next couple of home games, Karen and her
friends were outside talking before Diane and Sheril headed home. They saw the
Ice Crew coming out and overheard a comment coming from the group.
“Did you just hear what was said?” Sheril asked
Karen.
“I’m sorry, would you like to repeat that to the
entire class?” Karen said walking towards the group.
“I think you heard what was said” one of the girls
said.
“Oh I know I heard it, but for clarification, how
about you say it again and to my face.”
“Why don’t you stop being all high and mighty and get
over yourself. You had a chance to probably try out so don’t knock the ones
that did.”
“And when did I ever knock any of you?” Karen said
matter-of-factly.
“The other day with Dayna.”
“I love how the whole story got around.”
“You’re just jealous that we can be up close and
personal to the team and you guys are here waiting in the wings.”
“Someone’s been misinformed” Diane snapped.
“Apparently someone doesn’t realize who they’re
talking to” Natalie chimed in.
“We’re talking to a few girls that are never will
be's. You didn’t have the guts to try out now you and all the other jealous
female fans have a problem with us.”
“Oh I had the guts and I would’ve skated circles
around every one of you” Karen retorted.
“Then why didn’t you?”
“Not eligible.”
“I’m sure your, so called talent, could’ve outweighed
the age issue.”
Karen just snickered “not what I meant. I’m
ineligible due to the fact that I’m married to one of the Penguins. Apparently
your little friend left out that part.” The girls stood there as they were just
put in their place “besides, I think I have too much experience from my days
with Team USA in Women's Hockey. I mean, this ‘job’ is an amateur status job right?”
“Yeah, I guess it is” one girl stammered out.
“Karen we need to go. I’ll call you later” Diane said
as her and Sheril left.
“Later” she said as they hugged goodbye. She turned
around to see a few of the girls still standing there “I can see why the organization
wanted to try this and more power to you for earning your spots, but don’t
think your skimpy little outfits will work on the players. There are a lot more
wives and girlfriends then all of you and believe me, there won’t be an ice
crew if your little antics keep going.”
One of the girls was going to say something when she
saw a couple players walk over “everything ok baby?” Sidney asked with Max
walking over to Natalie.
“Everything’s fine” she said smiling at Sidney before
the four of them walked to their cars to leave as the rest of the Ice Crew watched with their disbelief looks.
